Report to MAARC
Anyone can report in good faith, and the Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC) at 1-844-880-1574 answers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Use it to report suspected abuse, neglect or financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
DHS lists people who receive home care or personal care assistance among those who may be vulnerable adults. Maltreatment includes abuse, such as physical, emotional or sexual abuse, restraints and involuntary seclusion; neglect, such as failure to provide food, shelter, clothing, health care or supervision; and financial exploitation, such as theft or withholding of money.
Your identity as a reporter is confidential and cannot be released without a court order. MAARC cannot share information about a completed report, even with the reporter, so questions go to the county or state agency that handled it.
Where reports go
Concerns involving home care agencies, hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living go to the Minnesota Department of Health, Office of Health Facility Complaints, at 651-201-4201. Concerns about DHS-licensed services go to DHS Licensing at 651-431-6600. Concerns about a family member, friend, scam, PCA or unlicensed provider go to the county social services agency. Possible crimes also go to law enforcement.
Mandated reporters, including law enforcement, educators, doctors, nurses, social workers and other licensed professionals, can use MAARC's online reporting tool or the phone. State law says a mandated reporter who has reason to believe a vulnerable adult is being or has been maltreated must report immediately.
